It had been a hell of a fine day.

By the end of it, Gabe had two new things on his to-do list: write up a stud contract and introduce Bruce to his harem. That second item would probably have to be repeated a few times, but trailering the horse to Arlington or hosting some of Earl’s mares here was better than Gabe having to hold a fake vagina for a horny stallion. He wasn’t going to make any money off the deal, but it wasn’t going to cost him much, and it was a big step toward Bruce earning his keep in future stud fees if his foals out-performed him.

Mostly, though, it had been a good day because of that other fine stud. The one he’d left napping in his bed when he got up to start dinner. The one whose eyes had gone shiny with excitement when he was sucking Gabe’s dick.

The one whose arms were wrapping around him from behind right this second, as a matter of fact. And whose lips were pressing against the bare skin on his neck.

Lucas was much more affectionate than Gabe would have guessed. He’d thought he might have to curb his urges to touch Lucas or risk freaking the guy out, but so far it didn’t seem like an issue.

“What are you making?” Lucas rested his cheek against Gabe’s shoulder blade and laced his fingers together on Gabe’s belly. “It smells good.”

“Venison.”

“Mmmmm, I remember.” He tightened his hold for a second, then let go. As Lucas came to stand beside him, leaning his hip on the counter, Gabe leaned over and kissed him, then went back to stirring the gravy.

“I was just about to wake you up. It’s almost ready.” Once this thickened, it was all done. He’d even made mashed potatoes.

“Should I set the table?” Frowning, Lucas looked around. “Do you have a table? Oh. You already set it.”

“Yep. Go find yourself something to drink from the fridge and sit down. Can you grab the salad off the top shelf?” Glancing over his shoulder, he saw Lucas pulling out the bowl. “I’ll bring the rest of the food over in a minute.”

He should have turned on some music. The extended silence while he finished the gravy and poured it into the pitcher, then got the potatoes and meat out of the oven, was working on his nerves. He hadn’t cooked dinner for a guy since he’d been seeing that dude, Tyler, from Port Angeles. That was a few years back, now.

It had been even longer since his stomach had tied itself up in knots like this. He hadn’t had a case of jitters this bad since, well, since Lucas had left town.

“Are you all right?” Lucas asked once Gabe had put dinner on the table, then grabbed himself a beer. He stopped in the middle of pulling out his chair and stared at him, trying to decide how to answer.

“Uh.” Slowly he sat. It was too late to say I’m fine, why? or make up some lame answer.
